Abstract
It is important to share the future image with the community members in revitalizations from disasters (Murosaki 2007). How can they create, keep and share it? It is deeply involved in the way of their perspectives on disaster. The present research is a case study of the Chuetsu earthquake, which occurred in Niigata Prefecture, Japan on the 23rd of October in 2004. Most of the stricken areas were small backward villages deep in the mountains of the communities. The disaster accelerated the depopulation and aging. How can the people in the districts, which sustained the most damage, achieve a creative revitalization? The present study is concerned with the ways the survivors and the outside supporters collaboratively created new narratives about their community. Through action research, it created new narratives by activating the role of outside supporters from the perspective of group dynamics.
